Movies that Matter wants to open eyes for human rights. Their core tasks are the screening of human rights related films and to raise awareness about human-rights films. They asked us to create a campaign with a focus on unexpected meetings and a change in mindset when visiting the festival.
Connect: In a polarising society, dialogue and encounters are more important than ever. With the selected films and in-depth programmes, the Movies that Matter Festival wants to contribute to the breaking down of walls in society and encourage connections between people.
For the 2023 festival, we were looking for an iconic visual that connects the audience, filmmakers and themes if the films shown. The heart that became the key visual of this year. We extended the identity and the campaign style with a customized typeface and several other icons, focussing on this years topics. aThis campaign was visible around the Netherlands and includes a festival trailer, appendix to the national newspaper Trouw de Verdieping, a social media campaign, festival decoration and an exhibition in the municipality house of The Hague.
As part of the Movies that Matter festival 2023 , the Activist House exhibition was shown at the Atrium: an exhibition about the protagonists of the Activist programme. Audiences were invited to meet the activists, get to know the films, be inspired and leave a message behind. The recognizable red house in the white Atrium was a true eye-catcher.
Marieke den Ouden is a designer living in Arnhem. During her studies in graphic and social design at the Willem de Kooning Academy, she looked at the relationship between the Netherland’s clothing industry, consumerism, and graphic design.
Photography is an important aspect in her work, and wherever she goes - the camera goes too. Can’t find Marieke on land? Probably because she’s sailing across the ocean on a pirate ship, teaching youngsters about sustainability
